Moisture

You shouldn’t need to add water regularly to your compost heap if you position it well and feed it with a balanced mix of green and brown ingredients.

If you do feel your compost is getting very dry, perhaps during a particularly hot spell, then add water in moderation to increase the moisture level and maintain a hospitable environment to support the vital microorganisms.

Keeping the lid on your bin in very wet conditions will keep rain out and in dry conditions will help to keep moisture in.
