Using compost around the garden
Compost is ideally applied in the spring and summer and is best added to the soil surface as a mulch that helps to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Compost can be used on all soils where feeding and conditioning is required but it isn’t a quick fix, instead the nutrients are released slowly over time.
As a rough guide, one wheelbarrow full of compost per five sq. metres of ground should be ample for one season, or for a hungry crop that likes a rich soil.
You can use your compost for all sorts of applications in the garden from nourishing your veg beds to making your own mixes for sowing and planting in.
